About Us

The Global Climate Finance Accelerator convenes partnerships across finance, engineering, research, and government on strategies, policies, procedures, and tools to finance the deployment of technically viable climate solutions. We identify, evaluate, and propose strategies to address common financing challenges such as outdated risk perceptions, capital costs, infrastructure capacity, policy and legislative barriers, and technological uncertainty.

Our approach to deploying blended finance structures:

  • Integrate private capital with concessional instruments, catalytic grants, and targeted incentives
  • Address the lack of commercially viable returns for many high-impact solutions
  • Monetize non-market benefits and improve project bankability
  • Incorporate environmental commodities e.g., carbon and biodiversity credits into revenue models
  • Actively contribute to the development of enabling markets
  • Develop capital mobilization strategies and bespoke pitch decks
  • Align with climate mandates, return expectations, and risk tolerances of institutional and mission-aligned capital providers

This approach enables capital flows into interventions that would otherwise remain economically infeasible, including fossil-fuel derived asset transition, climate-smart forestry, and nature-based carbon removal.

Advancing Climate Solutions Through Next-Gen Talent

We provide a professional platform for emerging leaders in finance, engineering, policy, and science to develop the expertise and technical capabilities needed to advance an equitable, net-zero economy. Each year, in collaboration with the University of Toronto, the Accelerator selects four full-time graduate students—one from each discipline—to identify and investigate solutions as our Accelerators-in-Residence.
